Since 2013, Dr. Xiao is deeply involved in Research on Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) Characterization and Design Bituminous Materials with Lower VOC emissions. Paper 1 first introduced test methods including TG-MS and UV-Vis that can be used to characterize VOCs. VOC reduction resulted from active carbon filler and SBS were studied by means of Ion current intensity, residual volatile speed and UV-Vis calibration curve. The rheological behaviors were also presented in this paper.
Paper No.2 discussed the degradation changes after VOC emission process. Weight reduction, phase angle, complex shear modulus and master curves were presented. LDHs influence on basic properties of bitumen were investigated as well.
UV-VIS was the only one method that used in Paper 3. UV-Vis calibration curve was included in this paper. Total amount reduction of SBS, C and LDHs were presented.
Paper 4 and 5 discussed the possibility of using LDHs to reduce VOCs. Test methods including TG and TG-MS were employed to reduction behavior. Ion current intensity of multi molecules were investigated. Residual volatile speed was studied as well.
